Central West vets golf report for game at Bathurst March 24
Hi everyone,
Another very good day of golf enjoyed by 120 Central West vets at Bathurst golf club. The weather was perfect. The fairways had a good cover of grass that didn’t really need preferred lies, but they came very handy when the ball landed off the fairway. The greens were soft and a bit on the slow side that made putting a lot more enjoyable.
A cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit on arrival, a very nice light lunch after the game and with more than 60% of the field scoring above 30 points a lot of golfers had some good stuff to talk about when they got home.
On to results.
A countback was required to decide first place in A grade when Gerard O’Neill from Wentworth and David Maher from Bathurst, both returned scores of 42 points. David had an excellent start on the front nine with 23 points followed by 19 points on the last nine. Gerard played steady golf through his round with two nines of 21 points. Two birdies in the last three holes got him over the line to get first place on the countback. David had to settled with second spot.
In B grade the winner was Ray Williamson from Duntry with a score 41 points. Ray played steady golf throughout with scores of 21 and 20 points in each nine.
Whatever drugs Malcolm Campbell is into, I want some. Malcolm won the B grade comp last week at Wentworth with 43 points and he followed it up this week with an excellent 40 points to win second place. A marvellous achievement considering his age.
The Ladies comp winner was Laurell Gassman wit 39 points. Laurell played solid golf throughout with 19 points on the front nine and 20 points on the second nine.
You had to play good golf to get a ball on the ball sweep with the cutoff line placed at 34 points.
The nearest to the pin winners were Mark MacKay on the 4th, Graham Tyson on the 8th, Dick Northey on the 13th and Graeme Walker on the 16th.
