Central West vets getting ready for golf

Central West vets report for Canowindra on May 27.

Hi everyone,

Once again, the Canowindra golf course was too big a challenge for the 58 Central West veteran golfers to conquer. No one on the field, including the locals was able to play to their handicap or better. It was a beautiful day weather wise but tough on the course.

If you want to challenge you golf skills don’t pay hundreds of dollars to play a resort course, put Canowindra on your bucket list, it will test you out.

Golf was tough but it was soon forgotten by the wonderful hospitality provided by David Carman and his group of volunteers that made us welcome with an excellent morning tea on arrival and a barbecue lunch at the end the game. We will be back to Canowindra on the 2nd of September for another challenging round hoping to do better.

A three-way countback was also needed when John Cowell, Murray Miller both from Wenty and Robert Lawrence from Canowindra all returned scores of 33 points. The countbacks officer gave John first place and Murray second. Robert had to settle for a ball on the ball sweep.

The winner on the Ladies’ comp was Maureen Lawrence from Canowindra with a score of 35 points which was also the best score of any grade. Due to the very good field of 16 players in the Ladies comp two prizes were allocated with Helen Kemper taking out the second-place voucher with 30 points.

The ball sweep went down to 25 points. No nearest to pin markers were available.
