Central West Vets enjoying lunch at Wentworth Golf club

Central West vets results for game played at Wentworth May 20.

Hi everyone,

A very big field of 101 Central West vet gofers had a round of golf at Wentworth golf course.

We had a taste of what is to come this winter with temperature that didn’t reach 5 degrees earlier on but as the morning moved on, jackets and jumpers came off and we enjoyed a beautiful late autumn morning that made playing golf very enjoyable.

The golf course was in excellent condition with arguable the best greens we have played on so far this year. They were of very good pace with a firm surface and true to line which was an indication on the good scores recorded on the day that included 22 birdies scored by the field.

The use of preferred lies throughout the green compensated for fairways that are still on the development stage.

On to golf results

You had to play excellent golf to win the comp today and that in itself may not have been enough, you also needed to play well on the back nine to win the countback.

We had a two-way count back to decide the A grade winners with David Parkes from Wenty taking out the winning voucher from John Fagan, from Bathurst when both had scores of 39 points.

In B grade it was a five-way countback to decide the winner when David Field, Terry Duff, Ian Kind, Martin Everett and Garry Kind all had scores of 37 points. When the dust settled the computer gave David Field first place with Terry Duff second.

The Ladies comp winner was Laurell Gassman with a very impressive 38 points.

The ball sweep went down to 33 points and the nearest to the pin winners were Mick Floyd on the 3rd, David Traves on the 5th, Phil Reed on the 6th, David Ryan on the 13th and Helen Fagan on the 16th.

Next Central West vets’ game will be at Canowindra on Monday May 27.

Canowindra is a walk up start so get there between 8:00 and 9:00 to get a game.

You can give David Carman a call on 02 6344 1342 to see if he can arrange a cart for you.

May the Gods of golf be kind to you.
