Central West vets report for game played at Canowindra, November 11
Hi everyone,
A very good field of 60 Central West vets played a game of vets’ golf at Canowindra golf club and as it is always the case, we were welcome with a morning tea on arrival and a barbecue lunch after the game that were very much welcome by all.
The course was in very good condition with the fairways providing good lays and reasonable run. The greens were slower than usual due recent scarifying but true to line if you hit the ball straight.
I am happy to report that 70% of the field conquered the challenge of getting to 30 points or more on the day.
Best of the field today was Maureen Lawrence who blissed the field with a superb 40 points to win the ladies comp. Two other ladies worth a mention were Sue Gander with 38 points and Suzanne Healy with 37 points.
In A grade the winner was Gary Cornish from Wenty with 38 points. Second place went to Barry Rue from Canowindra winning a countback from Peter Laffey and Dave Nichols when they all returned scores of 36 points.
The winner in B grade was Leon Roweth from Blayney with 38 points. Another countback was required to find second place when Karl Kemper and Peter Gray had scores of 37 points. Karl used his local knowledge to edge out Peter by the smallest of margins.
The ball sweep went down to 32 points on a countback.
