Central West Vets relaxing after a game of golf at Canowindra

Central West vets golf report for game played at Canowindra, Sep 2

Hi everyone,

Canowindra Golf Club welcome 44 Central West veteran golfers to a round of golf on Monday September 2. The golfers were welcome on arrival with a very nice morning tea and an excellent barbecue and salads lunch after the game which was very much appreciated by all golfers.

The course was in excellent conditions well grassed fairways that provided a reasonable amount of run and greens that run true to line and of good pace.

Unfortunately, the weather decided to make the game of golf that much harder by producing wind that was close to gale conditions making good scoring very hard to come by.

The best score of the day was achieved by the winner of the ladies’ comp, Helen Kemper with and excellent score of 36 points.

No one in the men’s comp played to their handicap or better with the winners of both grades scoring 33 points. Doug Flannery took out first place in A grade and Murray Miller was the winner in B grade.

Second place in A grade went to David Nicholls winning on a countback from Manuel Pro with both having 32 points.

A four-player countback was required to decide second place in B grade when Terry Duff, Peter Warren, Phil Sturt, and John Cowell all returned scores of 30 points. Terry Duff was given the second-place voucher by a very small margin.

Next Central West vets’ game will be at Molong on Monday September 9.

It will be a walk up start so get there between 8:00 and 9:00 to get a game.

Molong sand greens are not everyone’s cup of tea but please support the day. They have had to demolish their club house because it was infested with white ants, and they need all the help we can give them to survive. We want to see as many vets as possible on the day.

Good golfing everyone
